Zack Osinski, a native of North Carolina, is currently pursuing his master’s degree in Flute Performance at the University of Illinois with Dr. Jonathan Keeble. He received his Bachelor of Music and Performance Certificate from the Eastman School of Music (‘17), where he studied with Bonita Boyd, and his high school diploma from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts (‘13) where he studied with Dr. Tadeu Coelho.

While at Eastman, Zack performed regularly with ensembles OSSIA New Music and Musica Nova, working with composers such as Jo Kondo, Georg Friedrich Haas, and Robert Morris. Zack was also a frequent performer with the Eastman Wind Ensemble (recently sharing the stage with banjo virtuoso Bela Fleck) and will be heard on the ensemble’s upcoming release of works by Jeff Tyzik.

Zack’s love of performing and new music have won him accolades and recognition. For his performance of Andre Jolivet’s Concerto for Flute (1949), Zack was awarded the esteemed Eastman Performer’s Certificate in the spring of 2016. That same semester, he was invited to perform at the 2016 NYC Electroacoustic Music Festival, premiering new works for alto flute and electronics. Most recently, Zack was a featured soloist on the Illinois Modern Ensemble’s season premiere concert, performing Salvatore Martirano’s “Phleu” (1985) for flute and electronics, and was winner of the third annual Tallon Perkes Scholarship Competition for his performance of Joseph Schwantner’s “Black Anemones” (1980).

When his flute is packed away, Zack can be found baking, running, perusing used book and record stores, watching competitive tennis and figure skating, and is never without a coffee mug or his waffle iron.
